A European project to boost rural employability through Artificial Intelligence
Artificial Intelligence Against Rural Unemployment (A.I.A.R.U.) is a project funded by the Erasmus+ Programme of the European Union, coordinated by the Asociación Cultural Somos Europa (Spain).
Its main goal is to improve the employability of adults in rural areas through the practical, inclusive, and ethical use of Artificial Intelligence (AI).
Digital transformation is redefining how we learn and work. AI has become a key tool for accessing new professional opportunities, but many adults — especially in rural areas — still face a significant digital gap.
A.I.A.R.U. responds to this challenge by bringing technology closer to people through accessible training, innovative teaching methodologies, and educational resources adapted to adult learning.

Objectives
A.I.A.R.U. promotes digital and professional inclusion among adults, encouraging the ethical and effective use of Artificial Intelligence. Its main objectives are:
- Strengthen the digital and pedagogical skills of adult educators.
- Improve the employability of adults with fewer opportunities, especially those in rural areas.
- Promote digital literacy and the practical use of AI in adult education.
- Build a European cooperation framework for educational innovation and equal opportunities.
Results and outputs
The project produces open-access resources designed for educators, trainers, and organisations working in adult education:
- Research: Document that collects the survey results to know the pillars for the methodology.
- AIARU Methodological Guide: a reference document for applying Artificial Intelligence in adult learning and employability.
- “AI Helps you” video series: training videos on how to use AI to write motivation letters, create professional CVs, or prepare for job interviews.
- Digital and multimedia learning materials, designed for accessibility and real-life application.
All outputs will be freely available in digital format to ensure open access and wide transferability across Europe.
Project partners
A.I.A.R.U. is coordinated by Asociación Cultural Somos Europa (Spain) and implemented together with three experienced European organisations:
Somos Europa (Spain) – Project Coordinator.
A non-profit organisation dedicated to promoting European values, social inclusion, and non-formal education. Somos Europa leads the project management and overall coordination.
Inserta Andalucía (Spain) – A foundation specialised in social inclusion and vocational training for vulnerable groups. Responsible for developing the project’s training methodology.
High on Life (Italy) – A non-profit organisation promoting non-formal education and social innovation through participatory and creative methods. Leads the dissemination and training activities.
Euroformaz (Italy) – A vocational training and technology centre with strong expertise in digital skills and European projects. Coordinates the research on the use of AI for employability.
Expected impact
A.I.A.R.U. seeks to create a positive and lasting impact on both education and employment in rural areas.
The project contributes to:
- Strengthening digital competences among adults and educators.
- Increasing employment opportunities in rural regions.
- Promoting a more inclusive, innovative, and accessible education system.
- Encouraging transnational cooperation between European educational organisations.
Ultimately, A.I.A.R.U. aims to make Artificial Intelligence an ally for learning, innovation, and social inclusion, helping adults adapt to an ever-evolving digital world.
